A lot has happened since Game of Thrones kicked off all those years ago – and many of its characters have changed dramatically across the eight seasons. An ever-impending winter will do that to people, y'see.

But who has changed the most since the show first began, according to the series creators David Benioff and Dan Weiss?

Could it be Bran Stark, who has transformed from an innocent young boy into a jaded, sinister Three-Eyed Raven? Could it be Jaime Lannister, who started his Thrones journey off by ruthlessly shoving a child out of a window but is now someone we're all rooting for?

Could it even be Jon Snow? He's the Stark 'bastard' who was left with the runt of the litter in series one but is now a hero, and the rightful heir to the Iron Throne.

Well, no. According to Benioff and Weiss, it's Sansa who has changed the most since the series started.

Chatting to Entertainment Weekly, the two showrunners justified their decision, arguing that Sophie Turner's Sansa "was forced to undergo the most brutal possible education".

"She started out so naive and was forced to undergo the most brutal possible education into the world but emerged from it and became this powerful figure and kind of against all odds. I don't think too many people watching the first season had any expectation that Sansa would become the woman that she became," they said.

Praising Sophie for her portrayal of the Lady of Winterfell, Benioff added: "And part of that is the story and part of that is Sophie Turner and the phenom she turned out to be as an actress.

"We knew when we cast Sophie that she was this really good child actor but we had no idea she'd become the force that's she's become. So if I had to pick one, I'd pick Sansa."

While Sophie Turner might have overseen one of Thrones' most impressive transformations, the actress has other ideas about her career moving forward.

Opening up about her plans for the future, Sophie said: "I want to do a lot of things, and not just in the film world. At the moment I have a real urge to go to a police academy and become a cop.

"I'm fascinated by crime and why people do things and the interrogation process, and how you can manipulate your words in order to get someone to confess, that's something that really interests me."
