The Great British Bake Off aired another Stand Up to Cancer special tonight as four new celebs took to the tent for charity.

After David Schwimmer and Jessica Hynes won the last two editions, The Walking Dead actor David Morrissey, actress and comedian Lucy Beaumont, diver Tom Daley and presenter Adele Roberts took part this time around.

And it was David, who played the Governor in The Walking Dead, who took home the Star Baker award after he'd received a handshake from Paul Hollywood for his quiche.

David's quiche in the first round made him in an instant favourite after Paul loved it so much he gave him that handshake, and he did well in the second round, too. The four celebs were tasked with making a British classic — bourbon biscuits.

Apart from Lucy, who placed fourth, they all did pretty well. Tom placed third and David placed second as Adele just about edged him out. That set up a photo finish in the third and final round, when the celebs had to create their perfect day off via a showstopper cake.

Tom, whose biggest hobby is knitting, made a cake inspired by knitting; Adele made a popcorn-bucket cake inspired by her love of going to the cinema; David made a cake of himself watching his football team, Liverpool, on the sofa; and Lucy's attempt at a Sunday lunch cake didn't exactly go to plan.

Paul, who is also a Liverpool fan, loved David's cake — while Adele's PB & J-flavoured popcorn cake also went down a treat. That meant it was anyone's guess as to who would win between the two, but it was David who just about edged it.

"I can’t believe it. I mean, I don’t know whether you saw my face when it was announced, I was convinced it was going to be Adele, I thought her cake was so amazing. So, yeah, I won’t gloat about it," David said.

Prue Leith added: "David had a really good two days. He’s a really careful baker. Tom and Adele were both close on David’s heels. David didn’t romp ahead and win, he just pipped them to the post."

And, proving what a lovely guy David is, the actor tweeted after the show: "Loved doing this. It was a real laugh and wonderful people to spend time with. Please donate as every penny counts!"

The Great British Bake Off airs on Channel 4 in the UK. In the US, it's known as The Great British Baking Show, and streams on Netflix.
