THERE is a "great sense of family" at a Bradford barber shop which is in the running for a top award.

The Telegraph & Argus launched its Best Hairdresser or Barber 2024 contest recently.

Readers were invited to share their favourite hairdresser or barber - and an amazing 22,444 nominations came in.

The nominations were whittled down to 10 and we are now aiming to publish a profile on each of the finalists in the coming days.

Today we are highlighting Kojo's Cuts, on Morley Street, which opened in 2020.

Kozhin Jabar, owner and senior barber, said it was an "honour" to be nominated and make it into the final of the competition.

"It really does go to show that our customers love us and the service we provide to the local community," he said.

"We couldn't have got here without our customers so this is as much as a win for them as it is for the Kojo's Cuts team."

Kozhin said his passion for barbering started at a young age and he opened his barbers shop after finishing college.

He said there is a "real homely feeling" working at Kojo's Cuts.

"There is a great support network within the team," he added.

"Each day brings its own set of challenges and really allows each team member to stretch themselves and develop their skill set.

"Working here is truly an interesting job - watching the hustle bustle of the city centre, overhearing snippets of conversations ranging from descriptions of chosen haircuts to local gossip, to then offering a listening ear to those who need to mentally offload."

He added: "There is a great sense of family here.

"The relationship between us and our clientele and the wider community is a very personal one.

"There are always floods of students coming into the shop.

"We also make the effort to look out for the most vulnerable in our community - for example, providing regular free haircuts to the homeless in the area.

"There is always banter and positivity bouncing around the shop.

"Every customer who enters the shop leaves with a smile - that is something we make sure of."

Don't miss out on your chance to vote for your favourite hairdresser or barber.

All you need to do is fill out the voting form, which can be found in the T&A newspaper until July 6.

The overall winner will be announced on July 15.
