Watch: Dancing on Ice's Greg Rutherford worried he broke his hip after fall
What did you miss?
Greg Rutherford has said he thought he’d broken his hip when he had a terrifying fall on Dancing On Ice.
The former track and field athlete is a contestant on the latest series of the ITV ice-skating competition but nearly came a cropper during one of his first days at the rink. Olympian Rutherford had taken to the ice for training and had a nasty tumble.
It left him nursing a sore hip, but luckily he was well enough to continue in the contest.
What, how, and why?
Speaking on ITV’s Lorraine, Rutherford said: “I had a really big fall, they showed it in the VT for week one. I had a massive swelling grow on my hip from it. I genuinely thought that I had fractured my hip, it was that sore."
"And I’ve had a few falls since then, we had a fall last week as well," he said. "But things happen. I’ve got cuts on my hands where you catch things and whatever else.
"It is dangerous. You get it wrong, it goes very wrong.”
Rutherford teased that this week he and his skating partner Vanessa James would be doing something “that has never been performed on the show" which he described as a "sort of throw”. “It’s terrifying, I’ve got that to contend with as well,” he laughed.
What else did Greg Rutherford say?
The star – who has done other TV shows, including The Chase's celebrity special, Strictly Come Dancing and Celebrity MasterChef - said Dancing On Ice “feels so much closer to what I’m used to from the point of view of sport”.
“Even with something like Strictly, that was, I was a terrible dancer,” he admitted. “I tried my hardest but I wasn’t very good.
“But this feels like sport. I feel my body and my brain are connected on a level that I haven’t been for anything really so that as well makes me want to do well because of it.”
“I love the show,” added Rutherford. “I love being involved and I want it to last as long as possible.”
