Guardians of the Galaxy 2 Title Revealed

It’s official – ‘Guardians of the Galaxy 2’ has been given a full title… but it’s a bit more underwhelming than you might have imagined.

During an interview with Collider, Marvel boss Kevin Feige slipped up, revealing the full name of the upcoming ‘Guardians’ sequel.

“We start shooting Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2 in February-March 2016.”

At the end of the interview, Collider asked Feige to confirm whether or not this is in fact the sequel’s full title… but he refused to comment either way.

Thankfully, director James Gunn responded via Twitter.

“Yes, the official title for the @Guardians sequel is GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2.” he said. “Nice detective work, @colliderfrosty, etc! You got us!

Not exactly earth-shattering stuff, but it’s interesting that Marvel has taken a slight spin on their usual sequel naming conventions – avoiding ‘Guardians of the Galaxy 2’ or use of a far longer subtitle in favour of the simple ‘Vol. 2’.

But what does this all mean? It’s likely a simple nod to Star-Lord’s mix-tape – Awesome Mix Vol. 1… and the upcoming Vol. 2 that will feature as the sequel’s soundtrack.

Of course, Marvel hasn’t officially announced the title just yet… but with James Gunn’s confirmation, it’s all but certain. And if you ask me, it’s just another fun little way in which the ‘Guardians’ franchise separates itself from the rest of Marvel’s big screen efforts.

It’s certainly not a huge deal… but it’s enough to suggest that ‘Guardians’ is something else entirely. And if you ask me, that’s kind-of cool.

Let’s just hope we get a track listing for Awesome Mix Vol. 2 in the near future.

‘Guardians of the Galaxy 2’ heads to cinemas on 28 April 2017.
