Another 25 more people are thought to have been injured in the deadly attack, which happened in Minya province, some 150 miles south of the capital Cairo, according to the governor of the province, Essam al-Bedaiwy.

It is the latest in a number of attacks on Egypt’s Coptic Christian community.

Two suicide bombings targeted churches in Tanta and Alexandria in April, leaving at least 46 people dead.

The attacks were claimed by the Islamic State group.

There are around 20 million followers of the church in Egypt, by far the largest following of the Christian sect in the world.
