Gunwoman Held At White House Refuses To Speak

A woman carrying a pistol was arrested outside the White House just after President Barack Obama had completed a primetime speech on immigration.

Twenty-three-year-old April Lenhart refused to speak to authorities, said Secret Service spokesman Ed Donovan.

The Michigan woman was taking part in a demonstration on Thursday night along the north fence when agents spotted a handgun holstered on her front hip.

Lenhart is accused of carrying an unlicensed, unregistered firearm and unregistered ammunition.

Crowds of activists had gathered outside the executive mansion in Washington DC as the President announced plans to shield nearly five million people from the threat of deportation .

Lenhart's arrest comes a day after a 41-year-old Iowa man, RJ Kapheim, was held near the White House with a rifle and 40 rounds of ammunition in his car.

Security has been bolstered recently outside the White House after embarrassing security lapses .
