Those who have seen the movie know that there is a significant plot development regarding Mark Hamill's character.
With this in mind, a video that the actor tweeted back in August 2016 may have big implications regarding his role in Episode 9, which will be directed by JJ Abrams.

"#FarewellFacialFur & #ByeByeBeard (at least til #EpisodeIX)," Hamill wrote, heavily suggesting that he will play a part in the 2019 sequel complete with the beard.
But – BIG, BIG, BIG SPOILERS! – how does that work given that he died at the end of The Last Jedi?

The smart money (at this stage, anyway) is on Luke Skywalker returning as a Force Ghost, much like Yoda did in the newest Star Wars film. Was it mere coincidence that they used Yoda in this way, or a bit of foreshadowing?
Also, as Han Solo is a goner and given that Leia star Carrie Fisher tragically passed away in December 2016, Hamill's Luke is the only one of the 'big' three that Episode 9 can bring back.
We only have two years to wait...
Star Wars: The Last Jedi hit cinemas in the UK on December 14, with US cinemas following today, December 15.
