Actress Evanna Lynch has revealed that she left a budding career in Los Angeles for London because she couldn’t find any “unique” parts.

The 25-year-old beat 15,000 girls in an audition to win the coveted role of Luna Lovegood in four of the Harry Potter films.

After the franchise ended she moved to LA to try to further her career. However, the Irish star is now on stage in London in the revival of the acclaimed play Disco Pigs.

“On a whim, I met a manager. He was very encouraging so I just went [to LA],” she said. “I stayed for three months, then five years passed. I [did] acting classes, trying different methods. I just felt the stuff I was reading for out there I didn’t love it as much as the stuff here. I was finding much more unique projects like this.

“As soon as I read this [Disco Pigs] script I thought, ‘This is so strange,’ and it made me think a lot. I moved back here in November.”

In Disco Pigs she plays 17-year-old Runt, alongside Colin Campbell. The play, at Trafalgar Studios, tells of two teenagers whose explosive relationship is played out in the nightclubs of Cork.

“I was doing the Potter films at that age. I wasn’t a party animal,” she said. “I seem to play teens who are wild and unapologetic — but I was bookish and introverted.”

Disco Pigs, by Enda Walsh, runs until August 19.
