Harry Styles' Ever Since New York accused of 'ripping off' 70s hit

We have been loving every minute of Harry Styles’ musical return and his debut solo track ‘Sign of The Times’ rightly received praise from the industry, including comparisons to the late great David Bowie.

The single debuted at number one in the UK and number four in the US.

So to hear that the star has been accused by some people of ripping off a 70s rock band with his latest song ‘Ever Since New York’ has come as a bit of a shock.

People are claiming the guitar riff used on ‘Ever Since New York’ is very similar to that featured on the 1971 track ‘Baby Blue’.

One wrote on Twitter: “I wonder if Harry Styles has ever heard Badfinger’s Baby Blue, and if he will hear from their lawyer.”

And source told The Sun newspaper: “This is the last thing Harry needed. His solo launch hasn’t quite gone to plan and this is another distraction.

“He takes real pride in his new material and to be accused of nicking a riff will really hurt.”

Harry previously admitted he is inspired by music from the past 50 years and his personal tastes date further back than One Direction and pop music.

He told Cameron Crowe: “A lot of my influences, and the stuff that I love, is older. So the thing I didn’t want to do was, I didn’t want to put out my first album and be like, ‘He’s tried to re-create the Sixties, Seventies, Eighties, Nineties.’

“Loads of amazing music was written then, but I’m not saying I wish I lived back then. I wanted to do something that sounds like me. I just keep pushing forward.”

Despite the recent launch of his solo career, Harry won’t rule out getting back together with Liam, Niall and Louis in the future.

He shared: “I love the band and would never rule out anything in the future. The band changed my life, gave me everything.”
