Heavy Flooding Hits San Juan With New Record Daily Maximum Rainfall

Heavy flooding struck Puerto Rico’s capital city, San Juan, on Friday, October 27, as the area experienced a historic record for daily maximum rainfall, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) of San Juan.

Footage posted to Instagram by @bengiebengie shows severe flooding in the city of San Juan on Friday night, with cars stranded and other drivers seeking shelter.

“Everything has collapsed, there are cars trapped. I’m going to seek shelter now,” the recorder said.

According to local news reports, several municipalities in northwestern, northern, southern and central Puerto Rico remain under a flood alert after the NWS issued warnings for the region.
