Glasgow is set to be battered by heavy rain this week just days after the city was treated to a spell of warm weather and sunny skies.

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for rain which comes into effect from 12pm on Wednesday, May 22, until 6pm on Thursday, May 23.

Heavy showers may lead to flooding and some travel disruption, according to the Met Office. It comes just four days after the city saw highs of 22C on Saturday as Glaswegians enjoyed barbecues and trips to the park while basking in the sun.

There is a chance that homes and businesses could be flooded and there could be 'danger to life' due to fast flowing or deep floodwater.

Driving conditions are expected to get difficult with some road closures also forecasted. There is a slight chance of power cuts and loss of other services to some homes and businesses.

Wednesday's forecast for Glasgow reads: "Cloudy with patchy rain initially, which turns heavy at times from late afternoon. Freshening northerly winds developing during the evening. Maximum temperature 19C."

The Met Office warning adds: "An area of heavy rain is expected to move northwest across Scotland from Wednesday afternoon, with rain most persistent across northern and eastern hills. Rain likely to turn more showery through Thursday in central and southern areas.

"There remains some uncertainty on the duration and placement of the heaviest outbreaks."

The yellow warning covers Glasgow, North and South Lanarkshire as well as East Renfrewshire.
