Yahoo News Helen Mirren won't play the Queen in The Crown
Proving that no one should be taking gambling tips from Claire Foy, Helen Mirren has confirmed that we definitely won't be seeing her play Elizabeth II in The Crown.
Foy had said last month, while being interviewed by Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live, that she would "put money on" Mirren playing the Queen in a later season of Netflix's show, although she did add that "it's definitely not a done deal".
Well, that last bit was certainly right as, asked by The Daily Beast if she was interested in appearing in The Crown, Mirren assured the interviewer "'No, I'm not. No, no. Done with that."
Mirren of course won an Oscar for her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II in the 2006 movie The Queen, and played her again in the 2013 West End play The Audience (written by The Crown creator Peter Morgan), which went to Broadway in 2015. She won Olivier and Tony awards for The Audience, so she's pretty good at the role, but we can see why she feels it's enough now.
With Claire Foy having wrapped up seasons one and two of The Crown, Olivia Colman is next in line to replace her. The Broadchurch star – who's admitted she's scared to take over the role of the Queen after Claire Foy – will take over for seasons three and four, and then the role will move on to a different actress.
In other recent casting news, it looks like Helena Bonham Carter might be replacing Vanessa Kirby in the role of Princess Margaret, but Netflix has not confirmed this yet.
