Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will stay home and bake cupcakes to celebrate.
So the current coronavirus pandemic has left us social distancing for the sake of our health, which is a bit of a bummer. But the silver lining here is that people are finding unique ways to enjoy life’s milestones (like weddings and graduations) in these unprecedented times, and the royals are no exception.
In case you didn’t know, Prince Louis’s and Archie Harrison’s birthdays are coming up—yay!—and the pandemic isn’t stopping their parents from planning fun celebrations for them...with a few safety adjustments, of course.
Initially, Prince William and Kate Middleton wanted to have a massive party for Prince Louis’s 2nd birthday on April 23. That’s out of the question now, a source told Us Weekly, so they’re going to have a smaller, more intimate get-together instead. “Unfortunately, Kate’s had to call off Louis’s big birthday party because of the COVID-19 pandemic, but the celebrations haven’t been completely canceled,” the source said. “They’ll just do something smaller with immediate family only.”
Depending on what the temp is like outdoors, William has plans to grill some food (!!!) and do some kid-friendly activities. “If the weather is nice, William’s planning to cook some chicken and burgers on BBQ and play outdoor sports and games as a family—football, chase, and hide and seek,” the source added. “And obviously, Louis will have a cake too! He’s so excited about his big day and is already singing happy birthday to himself.”
You’re probably wondering if Queen Elizabeth will be there, right? Well, that wouldn’t really be safe for the 93-year-old, who is self-isolating with Prince Philip at Windsor Castle, so she won’t be. But it’s okay, because she’ll still see Louis virtually. “William’s promised that he’ll FaceTime her with Louis on his birthday,” the source said.
On the other hand, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have a similarly scaled down day planned for Archie's first birthday on May 6. “It will be just the three of them,” a separate Us Weekly source shared. Meghan's BFFs, Jessica Mulroney and Abigail Spencer, were supposed to be there for Archie's big day, but now Meghan wisely “refuses to take any risks” with inviting people over or traveling.
Meghan and Harry originally wanted to take Archie to Scotland to spend time with Queen Elizabeth and have a picnic at the Balmoral Castle, but those plans have since been canceled (no word yet on if they'll FaceTime her, though). To make up for it, Meghan and Harry will make Archie's first birthday special by making him animal-themes cupcakes. “Archie’s such an animal lover,” a second Us source added. “He has tons of animal books and fluffy toys.”
As great as this all sounds, let's be real—I'm sure Prince Louis and Archie Harrison will be happy no matter what their parents have in store of them!
