Forecasters predict a warmer and brighter week ahead after a rainy bank holiday as parts of Essex are set to be hotter than Los Angeles.

Sunny spells have developed across the county today and, thankfully, are expected to last throughout this week with parts of Essex basking in highs of 22C this weekend.

Sunseekers enjoyed a warm Saturday and Sunday, but heavy rain on bank holiday Monday put a damper on the long weekend with a three-day extravaganza on Southend Pier cut short due to the weather.

This week, temperatures will rise to 20C from Thursday and reach highs of 22C to 23C in parts of south Essex, including Basildon and Grays, on Sunday.

This will make south Essex hotter than sunny Los Angeles, in the United States, this weekend, where temperatures will reach 20C on Sunday and drop to 19C on Sunday.

Coastal parts of the county will be a little cooler, such as Southend where temperatures will hit a high of 19C on Sunday.

Ellie Glaisyer, a meteorologist at the Met Office, said: “It will generally be a lot more settled this week.

“It will start to feel much more pleasant with temperatures on Tuesday likely to reach the very early twenties in the south, and then later on in the week, we could see temperatures of around 22C to 23C, while the north is likely to reach temperatures in the high teens.”

Ms Glaisyer said an area of high pressure will start to build and move across the UK from Wednesday onwards, potentially bringing more settled, warmer, and drier weather.
