'Heritage in Flames': Smoke Pours From Iconic Copenhagen Stock Exchange Building

A fire broke out at Denmark’s Old Stock Exchange, or Boersen, on Tuesday, April 16, causing the 17th-century building’s well-known spire to collapse.

Denmark’s National Emergency Management Agency said that they arrived at the building on Tuesday morning, and were assisting local police and emergency services with their efforts.

Local reports said people on the street were seen running into the building to save historic pieces of art.

The Danish Minister of Culture Jakob Engel-Schmidt said that the images he had seen of Boersen on fire were “terrible.”
