Holby City's Tuesday episode (November 12) brought a surprise appearance from YouTube star Tanya Burr.

The vlogger made a cameo as patient Joanne in the show and was treated by Essie Harrison and Sacha Levy.

As fans may know, Tanya is an online influencer in real life and, surprisingly, her character Joanne played a social media star too.

While being checked up by Sacha and Essie, Joanne wrongly assumed that the two were dating. "How long have you two been together?" she asked, to which they giggled: "We're not together."

Joanne then spoke about some of the perks of her job, saying she has a big community of followers on social media. It all felt like Tanya was just describing her real life as a YouTuber.

Sacha, however, didn't completely understand the world of social media stars, advising Joanne to keep it real and show her vulnerable side.

After letting Joanne know that she will have a scar on her body, Sacha asked: "For your followers, for the likes, to keep them coming back – how much do you exercise?" to which Joanne replied: "A lot."

"Listen, I don't pretend I understand any of this, but what I do know is that it's okay to be vulnerable," Sacha told Joanne. "I'm sure people will love you for it."

It was an inspiring message from Sacha as many times what we see on the internet is not entirely true, right?

As for the reaction to her cameo, many viewers were surprised see the social media influencer in an acting role (some tweets contain strong language):

Elsewhere, you'll remember that Elliot Hope (Paul Bradley) made a return to Holby last week to ask his old friend Jac for some help.

Elliot has a life-threatening heart condition and he considered asking Jac to operate on him. However, he chose not to, after seeing Jac trapped in her own problems.

Even after getting some encouragement from Kian, a worried Elliot was unable to share his own problem with Jac as he didn't want to cause her more worries.

Holby City airs on Tuesday nights at 8pm BBC One.
