Hollyoaks newcomer Adam Woodward has admitted that he's feeling the pressure of being compared to former fan favourite Danny Mac.

Adam made his first appearance in Monday's E4 first-look episode in the role of Brody Hudson, who immediately proved his credentials as the soap's new hunk by emerging from the sea in Ibiza in tiny blue shorts.

When Adam's casting was first announced in May, the tabloids were quick to bill him as the next Danny Mac – who played Dodger Savage between 2011 and 2015.

Asked by Digital Spy whether he has any nerves about the new role, Adam laughed: "Oh God, yeah – especially when you're being compared to people like Danny Mac, who was such an icon on the show. He's a brilliant actor and a really good-looking guy, so it was a surprise when people were making that reference.

"I can't see it personally because he was such a big character on the show, but it's an honour. I put the pressure on myself because I want to do a good job and bring Brody Hudson to life.

"But the fan reaction since my character was announced has been incredible. I didn't expect such a big response, but it's really humbling.

"There's so much love and Hollyoaks fans are some of the best fans around. They really appreciate all of the work that goes into the show and how good the cast are. I've been overwhelmed by the support that everyone has shown me."

Hollyoaks fans will see Brody continue to cause a stir in Ibiza over the next few days, but next week's episodes see him turn up in the village when he's revealed as the best friend of Scott Drinkwell's long-lost brother Damon Kinsella.

Speaking about all the drama to come, Adam continued: "With Brody, I think you can expect plenty of adventure, excitement, and maybe some relationship twists in the future.

"I think he's a good guy and he's one of the lads. He's got his dreams and his hopes and they're his focus, but I think he can probably get distracted by girls very easily!

"There are also things in his past that he would probably prefer to have changed, but he appreciates where he's come from and who it's made him.

"What's funny with the holiday scenes is that everyone thinks everything that happens in Ibiza is going to stay in Ibiza. But Brody is Damon's best friend, so he comes back with all of the secrets and everything that happened during the holiday.

"Brody ends up running the bar with Damon. Then everything goes from there."

Earlier this year, soap fans saw Adam briefly play the role of male escort Nathan in Emmerdale, appearing in a storyline with Finn Barton.

Reflecting on the experience, Adam told us: "I think the character of Nathan was best off being a guest. It was a wonderful storyline to play and a great character, but I think he served his purpose, whereas Brody Hudson is going to be around in Hollyoaks for a while and hopefully we can make him a fan favourite.

"Everyone at Emmerdale was incredible. Joe Gill, who plays Finn, made me feel so welcome and comfortable – as did Amy Walsh who plays Tracy.

"When you're not a new regular, it is hard because you know you're leaving and the cast know you're leaving so they probably don't want to get too attached. I think that's the difference with Hollyoaks. Everyone at Emmerdale was perfect, but everyone at Hollyoaks knows I'm here to stay and they're making me feel like part of the family."

Hollyoaks airs weeknights at 6.30pm on Channel 4, with first look screenings at 7pm on E4.
