As the spring season is upon us, gardens across the nation are not only witnessing a burst of blooming flowers but also the unwelcome sight of weeds sprouting in every nook and cranny.

These pesky plants don't just invade your lush green lawns; they're notorious for sneaking into cracks on patios, driveways, and between paving stones.

Yet, one savvy dad may have just the solution with his homemade "weed killer recipe" that's been circulating on a Reddit forum. This DIY concoction reportedly boasts rapid results, showing its effectiveness "only 24 hours" after application, reports the Express.

The Reddit user who shared this tip highlighted the cost-effectiveness of this method, pointing out it's "much cheaper" than commercial weed killers and is safe for animals as it "isn't harmful to critters".

It's important to remember, though, that this mixture might not be suitable for flower beds or vegetable patches where you want other plants to thrive.

The recipe is straightforward: combine a gallon of vinegar, a cup of salt, and two tablespoons of liquid dish soap. For a more natural and environmentally friendly option, choose an eco-friendly dish soap.

Once you've blended these ingredients, pour the solution into a spray bottle and spritz the weedy areas thoroughly. Once this is done, leave to soak.

The secret lies in the vinegar's acetic acid content, which dehydrates and consequently withers the weeds.

For optimal results, it's recommended to use vinegar with a high acetic acid concentration - aim for something between 10 and 20%

Likewise, salt can be used to dehydrate plants and disrupt the internal water balance of plant cells. As it is water-soluble, it works best when mixed with a liquid for application. This method allows for easier absorption by the weeds.

Dish soap acts as a binding agent, enabling the vinegar and salt mixture to adhere to the leaves of the weed. This combination should effectively kill the weeds.
