Repair Man Rescued After Getting Sucked Into Escalator In Front Of Horrified Shoppers

A repair man was seriously injured after he was sucked inside the moving escalator he was fixing.

Shocking photos show only the man’s head visible from above the machinery.

The technician was repairing the outdoor escalator in the Beibei District of Chongqing, a city in south-west China, when he accidentally fell inside.

The device was halted as he was sucked inside and firefighters were called to the scene as hundreds of horrified shoppers looked on.

The firefighters managed to free the man from the escalator and he was taken to hospital with severe injuries, although his condition is unknown.

It was reported that the escalator “suddenly became operational” while the repair man was working on it.

An investigation into the incident is underway.

It is the latest incident involving an escalator in China. Last week, a pensioner in the city of Shenzhen broke his leg after falling through a step-less escalator.

Last summer, a woman died after she fell through a loose panel at the top of an escalator in a shopping centre.
