How hot it will get in Hull and East Yorkshire as 'highest temperatures so far this year' possible

While the first half of June brought plenty of wet and unseasonably cool temperatures, things are now heating up in Hull and East Yorkshire with the "highest temperatures so far this year" possible in the coming days.

The Met Office says there are "higher temperatures to come" soon, with the mercury set to reach the mid 20s at times on Monday and Tuesday when highs are expected to reach at least 24C quite widely in our region. It will be even warmer in other parts of the country with areas further south seeing potential highs of up to 29C which could push past heatwave thresholds.

However, before then, a "weak weather front" will cross the country later on Friday and into Saturday, though it will quickly lose strength before it reaches our area.

It does mean the weekend will get off to a gloomier start than Friday though, with plenty of cloud around and perhaps the odd shower in places. These should clear eastwards with brighter spells later on and into the evening. High temperatures will be around 22C on Saturday.

Sunday looks likely to be brighter and more settled and feel warmer than Saturday with highs again reaching 22C. Things will warm up further on Monday and Tuesday and, while "some cloudier periods are expected, some sunshine is likely" throughout. It will also feel increasingly humid with light winds.

Dan Rudman, a Met Office deputy chief meteorologist, said: “After a brief, less settled interlude today and tomorrow, fine conditions will return by Sunday and into the beginning of next week. For much of the UK this will be accompanied by a boost in temperatures with many places reaching the mid-20°Cs.

"Some central and southern areas are likely to see temperatures approaching the values needed for heatwave conditions. Heatwave conditions need to remain in situ for three consecutive days, and by the beginning to middle of next week it is possible that some parts of the UK could be reaching heatwave thresholds.

“However, whether or not everyone experiences heatwave thresholds, the majority of the UK will experience the highest temperatures so far this year."
