Huey Morgan: We’ve got Fun Lovin' Criminals down to a ‘perfect science’

Huey Morgan says Fun Lovin’ Criminals have got their band down to a “perfect science”.

The frontman, 48, said they’ve mastered performing live after honing their talents over the last 20 years.

Speaking to the Evening Standard he said: “If you haven’t seen us live before you’re going to see one of the best live bands you’ve seen. I’m not just saying that because we’re pretty good at what we do.

“We’re going out and enjoying the moment which is something you have to be a little older to do.

“Everything I do now has been an amalgamation of everything over the last 20 years which we’ve got down to a perfect science.”

Morgan formed the band in 1993 with Brian Leiser and Steve Borgovini – who was later replaced by Frank Benbini in 2003.

Morgan said there isn’t as much “goofing around” anymore, something he described as a “god thing” because all of their focus is on the live shows as opposed to partying.

Speaking about their sound, which is a blend of hip hop and rock he said: “We didn’t want to make music like anybody else and 20 years later no one has really done what we’ve done or sounds like us.

“It would be great if people imitated us but they don’t and that’s because it wasn’t something that was a formula it’s just how we felt as people and how we like music as people and we always wanted to play it well because people are paying to see it and we don’t want to f*** up.”

Fun Lovin’ Criminals will play Electric Brixton on March 2. You can buy tickets here.
