'Hundreds' of Aston Villa fans evacuated as police rush in amid 'medical emergency'

'Hundreds' of Aston Villa fans have been evacuated from a stand at tonight's Conference League semi-final first leg against Olympiacos. A medical emergency is understood to have taken place in Holte Lower L2 stand and the section was cleared of supporters.

A fan at tonight's match told BirminghamLive there was "loads of police" and an ambulance was brought pitch side. A sign on the stadium read: "Can all supporters please clear Holte Lower L2 immediately."

The game is understood to be continuing, but the second half was reportedly delayed after an ambulance was driven pitchside. Prince William is attending the match tonight and could be seen earlier in the game reacting to the action on the pitch.

An announcer followed the first evacuation announcement by saying: "We would like to thank all the medical staff for their prompt support", which earned a big round of applause from the crowd.

Unai Emery's side will be targeting a victory this evening to take an advantage with them to the Karaiskakis Stadium next Thursday. The winner of this two-legged tie will then take on either Club Brugge or Fiorentina in the final on Wednesday, May 29.

Villa come into the clash on the back of a 2-2 draw with Chelsea last time out and are unbeaten in five home matches in all competitions. They have won all six of their Europa Conference League games at home this season.
