Hundreds of homes in the Maldon area of Essex have been temporarily left without power due to an overhead line fault. The issues are reportedly being experienced by residents living in the Maldon area and surrounding villages this afternoon (July 2).

According to UK Power Networks, the three postcode areas affected are CM83, CM94 and CM96. It is currently impacting nearly 200 customers as of 12pm.

The issue has reportedly been caused by a high voltage overhead electricity line fault. This has resulted in a power cut to the local area that is now being investigated. Some witnesses have reported experiencing a temporary power cut in the Heybridge area of Essex too.

A spokesperson for UK Power Networks said: "We're sorry for any disruption this may have caused you. As this was an unexpected power cut, we didn't know it was going to happen so we were unable to give you advance notice.

We estimate your power will be back on by: 02 Jul 14:30 - 15:30. We may be able to get some customers on sooner. The timeframe may change and be extended depending on our investigations and the work involved to resolve the issue."
