Hundreds of Thousands Join Poland Independence Day March Organized by Far-Right Groups

More than 200,000 people took part in a controversial Independence Day march that was organized by far-right and nationalist Polish groups on Sunday, November 11, in Warsaw.

President Andrzej Duda addressed the crowd at the march, which marked the centenary of the country’s independence in 1918.

“Thank you for coming here, for Poland, and for bringing the white and red [Polish] flag which saw our fathers, grandfathers and great-grandfathers spill their blood,” said Duda, an ally and former politician of the ruling Law and Justice (PiS) party.

The annual March of Independence, which attracted around 60,000 people last year, had grown in size in the past decade, attracting far-right activists from across Europe. Credit: BasedPoland via Storyful
