Hungary star shielded and stretchered off and Liverpool man in tears after sickening collision vs Scotland

There were hugely worrying scenes in tonight’s Euro 2024 clash between Scotland and Hungary as Hungarian player Barnabas Varga was stretchered off following a horror collision.

The crucial Group A match was halted towards the end of the second half after Varga collided with Scottish goalkeeper Angus Gunn. The forward immediately hit the ground, seemingly knocked out cold, as his concerned team-mates rushed over to help him.

The Hungarian players immediately signalled for medical staff to come to Varga’s aid as he was immediately put into the recovery position by his teammates.

Varga was then treated inside the penalty area, with medics putting up sheet barriers around him to shield him from view while they treated him.

His team-mates, including captain Dominic Szoboszlai, were visibly upset, with the Liverpool star said to be in tears as medics treated Varga. Following a lengthy stoppage, he was carried off on a stretcher, with the cloth barriers still held up around him.

The stoppage meant that 10 minutes were added on at the end of the second half, with Scotland needing a win to stay in the tournament.
