A ‘hypocritical’ traffic warden allegedly declared ‘I can park wherever I like’ after he parked on double yellow lines, then dished out tickets to parents picking up their kids from school.

The warden was spotted by Wendy Scott, who was waiting for her two children outside their school in Wigston, Leicestershire.

She noticed the warden loitering around parents’ cars, looking to give out tickets.

Then, noticing a red Toyota Yaris parked on a nearby corner, Wendy claims she approached the man and asked him who the vehicle belonged to and he admitted it was his.

After the 44-year-old called the warden out on his ‘hypocritical’ behaviour, he allegedly rudely declared he could park wherever he wanted as he was a ‘parking enforcement officer’.

When Wendy tried to snap a picture of the warden, she claims he tried to run away.

Wendy said: “This warden is a regular. He covers the school, a car park near my house and the main street with a few others.

“That’s how I recognised him and knew it was his car.

She added: “When I said ‘you should be setting an example’, he turned around and said ‘I’ve got the authority to park my car wherever I like. I’m a parking enforcement officer.’

“That’s just a posh word for a traffic warden.

“I told him he hadn’t and he wasn’t an ambulance or police car. He’s a traffic warden.

“Other mums then started to say something to him then.

“He started to give us a load back saying ‘I can do whatever I like.’

“I’ve even seen him park in a disabled booth before as well.”

After complaining to Leicestershire County Council, Wendy was told the matter had been referred to Harborough District Council who employed the traffic warden.

A spokesperson for Leicester County Council said: “We have been made aware of the situation. What is reported as having happened, appears to be completely unacceptable.
