Idris Elba has said his daughter Isan stopped speaking to him after failing to land a role in his new movie Beast.

Isan was up for the role of Elba's daughter but he revealed on The Breakfast Club that she 'wasn't right' for the part. Iyana Halley and Leah Sava Jeffries play his daughters in the new thriller.

Humorously, the Luther star said: "The relationship in the film and the relationship between my daughter was, the chemistry wasn't right for the film. Weirdly enough."

Elba also said that he left it to producer Will Packer to break the news to Isan that she hadn't gotten the role and that after she was told she didn't speak to him for 'about three weeks'.

The pair later made up with Isan accompanying her father to the film's premiere. Elba added: "She was very gracious about it and we got through that you know and I'm really proud of her to go through that, not get the role, but still come to the premiere."

Isan is Elba's eldest child and from his first marriage to makeup artist Kim Norgaard. She was later born on the same day he found out he was cast in his breakout role of Stringer Bell in The Wire.

Elba is reportedly no longer in the running to take over from Daniel Craig as James Bond.

The Cats actor has long been rumoured for the role and has previously talked about playing Ian Fleming's super spy as an actor of colour, saying: “There’s no such thing as a ‘black Bond.' Are we interested in having a Bond character other than being a male? Could be a woman, could be a black woman, could be a white woman, but I think, that character, everybody would like to see it have—do something different with it, why not?”

Beast is released on 26 August.
