I'm a Celeb: Viewers accuse Anne Hegerty's Bushtucker Trial as 'a fix'

The Chase star Anne Hegerty wowed her I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! campmates on Sunday night’s episode when she downed a ‘fish eye’ smoothie in record time.

But some viewers are skeptical about what exactly was in the green concoction, with some slamming the task as ‘a fix’ in Hegerty’s favour. While Robbie Williams, who set the task in the X Factor themed episode claimed it contained mashed fish eyes – some said it looked like a pint of coca-cola.

Hegerty was tasked with downing the fishy pint after eating a witchety grub. The 60-year-old has openly spoken about struggling with Asperger’s Syndrome, and that she was worried about the eating tasks on the reality series.

Indeed, after her task ended she admitted: “I kind of did surprise myself, I was nauseated by the eating trials and still am.”

Several viewers noted that when Noel Edmonds and Harry Redknapp attempted the same task, they both spat part of it out in disgust – where as Hegerty drank the entire thing uninterrupted.

However, ITV producers have denied the ‘fix’ claims. Responding to Metro.co.uk, an ITV spokesperson said: “This is categorically not true.”

And many of Hergerty’s fans also jumped to her defence, and accused the naysayers of seriously underestimating ‘The Governess” abilities.

Hegerty has spoken openly on I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! about her autism diagnosis, and almost left the jungle all together just a few hours in. Her fellow campmates rallied around her when she said:

“I’m just really, really close to saying I can’t do this.”

And in an earlier scene she told Emily Atack and Fleur East that she would cope best in the jungle if there was ‘structure.’

“I do respond well to structure. I think it will be quite structured in there. I will understand, ‘at this time I have to fetch wood and water’, doing that will make sense,” she said.

“But being surrounded by people I can’t get away from, or those who talk all the time, can be a source of stress.”

I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! continues on ITV nightly.
