International 'No Time To Die' trailers reveal huge 007 spoiler

A new trailer for No Time To Die, the new Cary Joji Fukunaga-directed James Bond film, was released by Universal on Thursday giving fans a new look at Daniel Craig’s final 007 film.

The action-packed trailer, which was much more classically ‘Bond’ than previous teasers, revealed a ton of previously unseen footage from the 25th Bond film, including a hint of the nefarious plot that Craig’s secret agent has to diffuse.

However, it’s also revealed that a huge plot twist – previously only an unconfirmed rumour – is actually completely true.

International trailers have – perhaps inadvertently – confirmed that in No Time To Die, Lashana Lynch’s Nomi is operating under the the codename of 007, not James Bond.

The trailer was part of a globally-co-ordinated launch that announced the film’s impending theatrical release on 12 November.

This means the studio simultaneously launched the trailer in multiple languages, and in the Spanish and Italian dubbed versions (via MI6-HQ.com) Bond says “I’ve met your new zero zero seven”, before we see him circling Nomi on a dance floor.

In the English language version he just says “I’ve met your new double O”, keeping the reveal a surprise.

This rumour was originally reported by the Mail On Sunday back in July 2019, who said the reveal of Lynch as 007 was a ‘popcorn-dropping moment’ in the film.

“There is a pivotal scene at the start of the film where M says 'Come in 007', and in walks Lashana who is black, beautiful and a woman,” their unnamed source said. “Bond is still Bond but he's been replaced as 007 by this stunning woman.”

In the Bond films the ‘double O’ codename is issued to secret service field agents to protect their anonymity, and it denotes that they have a licence to kill.

Anyone can be 007, and as No Time To Die begins with Bond in retirement following the events of 2015’s Spectre, the codename was up for grabs.

The twist was met with some backlash from a vocal minority, which Captain Marvel star brushed off with ease.

“It doesn't dishearten me,” Lynch told The Hollywood Reporter in November 2019.

“It makes me feel quite sad for some people because their opinions, they're not even from a mean place – they're actually from a sad place. It's not about me. People are reacting to an idea, which has nothing to do with my life.”

Whether Lynch’s Nomi will still hold the 007 title by the end of No Time To Die remains to be seen, but someone will have to assume the mantle for the 26th James Bond, as Daniel Craig has stated on multiple occasions that it will be his final outing as the character.

Bond producer Barbara Broccoli has previously shot down discussions that James Bond could be recast as a woman.

“He can be of any colour, but he is male,” Broccoli told Variety. “I believe we should be creating new characters for women — strong female characters. I’m not particularly interested in taking a male character and having a woman play it. I think women are far more interesting than that.”

No Time To Die finds Daniel Craig’s James Bond retired from active service. However, he’s drawn out of retirement by Jeffrey Wright’s Felix Leiter who is on the trail of a kidnapped scientist.

The film, from Albert R. Broccoli’s EON Productions, Metro Goldwyn Mayer Studios (MGM), and Universal Pictures International was written by Neal Purvis and Robert Wade (Spectre, Skyfall), Fukunaga, Scott Z. Burns (Contagion, The Bourne Ultimatum) and Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Killing Eve, Fleabag).
