Investigation launched as 60 firefighters tackle two-hour flat fire in Battersea

An investigation has been launched by the London Fire Brigade after a two-hour flat fire in Battersea.

Eight fire engines and around 60 firefighters were called to Strasburg Road just after 7.20pm yesterday (April 26).

Part of a single flat on the ninth and tenth floors of a 13-storey residential block were alight.

London Fire Brigade urged residents to avoid the area as the incident was being dealt with.

It is unknown whether any injuries were reported following the blaze.

The fire was under control just before 9pm.

Crews from Battersea, Clapham, Lambeth, Fulham, Brixton, and surrounding fire stations were at the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

A spokesperson for London Fire Brigade said: “Eight fire engines and around 60 firefighters are tackling a fire on Strasburg Road in Battersea.

“Part of a single flat on the ninth and tenth floors of a 13-storey residential block remains alight.

“There have been no reports of any injuries at this time.

“People are advised to avoid the area whilst we work to fully extinguish the fire.

“The Brigade's 999 Control Officers have received around 20 calls about the fire.

“The Brigade was called at 1923 and the fire was brought under control by 2059. Crews from Battersea, Clapham, Lambeth, Fulham, Brixton and surrounding fire stations remain at the scene.

“A 32-metre turntable ladder from Clapham Fire Station has also been in attendance alongside three fire and rescue units and two Command Units.

“The cause of the fire is under investigation.”
