A contestant on The 1% Club tragically died after filming, as revealed by the ITV show in a post-credits tribute.

The news of Steven Wong's death was shared on Saturday night's episode, leaving viewers offering their condolences. Steven had just minutes before regaled host Lee Mack with an entertaining story about his near-miss with Hollywood stardom.

The 1% Club has been a massive hit for ITV since its inception a few years ago. The latest series continued this weekend, airing immediately after the newest episode of Britain's Got Talent, reports Chronicle Live.

Comedian Lee Mack was at the helm, guiding a fresh group of hopefuls aiming to answer all questions correctly for a chance at the big money prize. Among those vying for the cash prize was Steven.

While he initially told presenter Lee that he worked for a utility company, he later shared a more intriguing tale about his close encounter with film stardom.

He began his story by revealing that his parents had signed him up for an audition. He then disclosed that he had made it to the final two for a leading role in a film - not just any film, but the globally acclaimed blockbuster Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.

Steven's response to a seemingly harmless question about his profession had Lee stunned, and viewers at home were also quick to react to his revelation. The news of Steven's death was sadly revealed at the end of the closing credits on Saturday, with the words 'In memory of Steven Wong. 1972-2024' appearing on screen.

Reacting to the news and the tribute to Steven, one viewer took to social media to write: "Very sad to hear about Steven Wong. Thoughts are with his family" while another posted: "RIP Steven Wong".
