ITV The 1% Club star dies and 'very sad' viewers rush to pay tribute

ITV The 1% Club fans have been left devastated after a contestant died after filming. The contestant revealed that he almost became a Hollywood superstar on Saturday night's show of the quiz favourite, which is hosted each week by comedian Lee Mack.

Steven Wong, 52, chatted to Lee on the latest edition of the show and explained how he nearly landed a major part in an iconic movie as a child. Steven said he got down to the final two in the hunt to star in Indiana Jones & The Temple Of Doom.

Steven said: "I didn't realise this but apparently we got down to the final two and it was me and another kid. Don't forget this was only when I was about 10!" But after the episode aired, a message at the end of the programme confirmed that Steven had passed away as The 1% Club paid tribute to him.

It read: "In memory of Steven Wong. 1972-2024." Taking to Twitter/X, a fan said: "Very sad to hear about Steven Wong. Thoughts are with his family." And a second said: "RIP Steven Wong." Another said: "So sad. RIP Steven Wong."

The show shared a tribute message at the end of the episode. He missed out on the role, which went to Ke Huy Quan. By the end of the episode, it was two others – Daniel and Mitul- who made it to the 1% question, with the latter getting it correct and walking away with £99,000.

As a child actor, Quan rose to fame playing Short Round in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom ( in1984) and Data in The Goonies (in 1985). Following a few roles in the 1990s, he took a 19-year acting hiatus, during which he worked as a stunt choreographer and assistant director.
