Pop Idol may not be coming back to screens after all it seems, despite rumours.

Following reports of a reboot, ITV's head of entertainment commissioning Katie Rawcliffe has shut down speculation that the talent show will return after 19 years.

"Pop Idol isn't coming back," she said at the Edinburgh TV Festival. "We've had talks about a reunion show, but no. It's not coming back."

According to Metro, this is in the context of a full series, with a possible reunion show still potentially on the cards.

Pop Idol famously helped push the likes of Will Young, Gareth Gates and the late Darius Campbell Danesh to fame in the 2000s.

Danesh sadly passed away earlier this month, having been found in his apartment in Rochester, Minnesota, with tributes flooding in for the singer.

His family said in a statement: "It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Darius Campbell Danesh. Darius was found unresponsive in bed in his apartment room in Rochester, Minnesota, on August 11 and was pronounced dead in the afternoon by the local medical examiners' office.

"The local police department have confirmed that there were no signs of intent or suspicious circumstances. The cause of his sudden death is unknown at this stage while medical examinations continue. We ask that you kindly respect our wishes for privacy at this time whilst we come to terms with the tragic loss of our son and brother."

In a tribute to the star, Simon Cowell said: "I first saw Darius on television over 20 years ago and I got to know him really well. He was charismatic, funny and just a great person to be with. His passing, for someone so young, is an absolute tragedy and my heart goes out to his family and friends."
