Emmerdale's Ethan Anderson could be making his exit from the programme following a shocking arrest in the latest episode.

Ethan, who was involved in a drink-driving accident that left his friend Nicky Miligan seriously injured, was taken into custody by the police in the recent episode of the ITV soap.

The incident saw Ethan crash Nicky's car and then abandon him at the scene, leaving Nicky unconscious on the road after pulling him out of the vehicle.

Nicky was quickly rushed to hospital with a severe head injury and brain swelling, and he is currently in a coma, with his future uncertain. His distraught parents Ruby and Caleb are desperate to find out who left their son in such a state, both eager for vengeance.

In the most recent episode of the popular soap, Caleb informed his brother Cain Dingle that Nicky wasn't the driver, and Cain vowed to discover who was behind the wheel during the accident reports the Mirror. He planned to track them down with a murderous glint in his eye, oblivious to the confession taking place in the village.

Ethan's odd behaviour over the past few days had his father Charles Anderson worried, prompting him to urge his son to open up about what was bothering him. A remorseful Ethan eventually admitted that he was the one who had hurt Nicky.

However, Charles was shocked when he discovered that his son had no plans to turn himself in and was even seeking an alibi. Outraged, Charles decided to call the police himself.

Ethan was apprehended and escorted away by the police, a scene that Ruby witnessed, leading her to understand the situation. Upon Charles confirming that Ethan was indeed the driver, Ruby lashed out at "sick" Ethan, telling him to rot in hell.

With Ethan now under arrest for causing the accident while intoxicated, could this imply he might face jail time for his actions, potentially signalling his departure?

It remains uncertain whether Nicky will pull through following the incident, as his family keeps a bedside vigil.

You can catch Emmerdale on weeknights at 7:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX, with a special hour-long episode every Thursday.
