ITV Midsomer Murders viewers 'getting annoyed' and demand 'bring back Vera'

ITV Midsomer Murders has come under fire with viewers demanding the broadcaster "bring back Vera". Midsomer Murders have spoken out on Twitter/X on Sunday - slamming the "far-fetched" first episode of the new series.

Fans said they were "getting p****d off" as the ITV drama returned on Sunday April 14. “John Nettles made this show when he finished it went downhill still watchable but a difficult one, to be honest," a social networking user wrote.

“Nice easy Sunday night telly but a bit far-fetched #MidsomerMurders,” another added before a third quipped: “Don't know why but no matter how hard I try to like this show I can never get into it." They went on to demand: "Just bring back Vera.”

Another viewer who was turning in at 8pm fumed at the broadcaster: “In the latest #MidsomerMurders on @ITV the pathologist playing the role, in real life is 73 and looks it. Why are they using actors unfit for the television roles?”

But defeding the programme, another sniped: “People moaning about #MidsomerMurders it's only been on for 5 minutes. Personally, I like it a bit of a more weird premise to start the series.”

“Why oh why only one episode #MidsomerMurders getting really p****d off with ITV doing this!” another said. The series returned with an episode which carried the synopsis: "When a survivalist is found murdered in his bombproof shelter, Barnaby unravels a dark conspiracy that reveals just how far people will go to escape the end of the world."

And Radio Times said: "Deep in Blacktrees Forest is a bombproof shelter built by a man named Warren Kaine. His extreme paranoia has drawn other survivalists to the village, and now a doomsday prepper group meets weekly. When Warren is found murdered, Barnaby unravels a dark conspiracy to reveal how far people will go to escape the end of the world. Drama, starring Neil Dudgeon, Nick Hendrix, Fiona Dolman and Nina Wadia."
