ITV Weather says heatwave 'heading our way' with UK set to sizzle

ITV Weather has said a heatwave is "on its way". Good Morning Britain star and ITV Weather Presenter Alex Beresford has confirmed a heatwave is "heading our way" with summer finally set to heat up after a cool and chilly June.

"Well at this stage it won't be hot enough for any heat warnings which is good news for those of us that become even more vulnerable in extreme heatwaves," Alex said. "That being said, considering how cool it's been thus far in June it will feel remarkably hotter and a lot like the idea of the proper summer many have been dreaming of with the warmest temperatures expected to be between 25 - 28C."

He went on: "Whilst it's too early to say for sure, there are signs it may not last the whole week." He added: "Next week we're expecting the jet to buckle up to the north of Britain, which will cut off the cool arctic air on its northern side and allow the much warmer air across southern Europe to venture northwards across the country."

In the meantime, the BBC Weather forecast for tomorrow reads: "Tomorrow, cloudy in Scotland and Northern Ireland, with outbreaks of rain in the evening. Elsewhere, dry and sunny, possibly a cloudier afternoon with the odd shower in northern Wales and England."

It goes on, in its forecast for Friday to Sunday: "Friday will see rain in the north-west which will later spread into other western areas. Drier further east with some sunny spells. Patchy rain spreading into the east overnight. Saturday looks to see a few scattered showers lingering to start but it will become a drier and brighter day across the UK.

"A settled day on Sunday, but thick cloud and some drizzle in the north-west." Tonight, any rain in the far north will tend to clear away to the east. Scotland and Northern Ireland will have areas of cloud interspersed with clear intervals.
