Yahoo News Jailed Pirates pitcher Felipe Vazquez faces new porn charge involving minor on top of 24 previous felony charges
Suspended Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Felipe Vazquez faces an additional pornography charge on top of the 24 felony charges that already landed him in a Pennsylvania jail.
The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports that St. Louis law enforcement charged Vazquez in February with one count of furnishing pornographic materials to a juvenile in 2019, a Class A misdemeanor in Missouri.
The Pirates were in town facing the Cardinals on July 16 when Vazquez allegedly sent nude photos and video of himself masturbating to a 15-year-old girl from his hotel room. Vazquez recorded a save for the Pirates that same day.
Vazquez’s 24 felony charges
Vazquez has been in a Westmoreland County jail since September when he was arrested on three felony charges involving an alleged sexual relationship with a girl that started when she was 13 years old. He was charged then with computer pornography, solicitation of a child and providing obscene material to minors.
In November, officials charged him with 21 additional felonies related to his alleged relationship with the girl. The new charges included 10 counts of unlawful sexual contact with a minor, 10 counts of child pornography and one count of corruption of a minor.
The new charges from St. Louis are believed to be related to the same girl.
Vazquez’s attorney Gary Gerson has maintained his innocence on the previous charges. He declined comment to the Tribune-Review on the new charge.
Vazquez reportedly admitted to sex with girl
Vazquez stands accused of starting a relationship with the alleged victim when she was 13 after he met her in the bullpen at the Pirates PNC Park. He allegedly maintained the relationship until she was 15. He admitted to having sex with her in 2017, according to a state trooper at November’s hearing, ESPN reported.
The girl told police that Vazquez drove to her home outside of Pittsburgh in Scottsdale, Pennsylvania, and attempted to have sex with her in his car.
Vazquez was a two-time All-Star closer for the Pirates and played in the Major Leagues for five seasons.
He was placed on MLB’s restricted list upon his arrest.
