James Haskell discovered 'a deep, dark set of emotions' during eviction from 'I'm A Celeb' jungle

Rugby player James Haskell became the fourth star to be voted out of I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here! on Tuesday night as his jungle journey came to an emotional end.

Speaking candidly with hosts Ant and Dec in his eviction chat, Haskell spoke about tearing up in camp.

"You know what, I got quite emotional,” he said. “Jacqueline started crying, Ian had tears in his eyes, and I thought 'There’s no way I’m going to well up here', and I did. I discovered a deep, dark set of emotions.”

Haskell had been the subject of controversy during his time in the competition due to his outbursts at other contestants.

One such moment, in which he described the camp as a "circus of stupidity", prompted 32 complaints from viewers to broadcasting regulator Ofcom.

The 34-year-old was defended last week by his wife Chloe Madeley, who claimed it was the lack of food affecting his moods, and Haskell told Ant and Dec that his body had "started to shut down".

"My body started to shut down," he said. "Caitlyn [Jenner] and I are like an old married couple, up and down the stairs all the time, burning calories, walking to trials, my legs... I couldn't focus. I got very tired in the afternoons but I didn't want to overly complain."

He also said the food deprivation wasn't a "good experience", but he did also reflect on the positive parts of the challenge.

"I’ve been playing rugby for the last 18 and a half years,” he said, “and for once I had a break and I wanted to reset my life, and this was the perfect kind of platform to do it.

"I’ve learned a lot about myself in terms of challenges and hardships, I can actually deal with quite well. Starving me, I don’t think was a good experience, but I found also I quite enjoyed helping other people. That was my biggest kind of thing that I really enjoyed."
