Jamie Carragher causes chaos on live TV after drinking eight pints while working

Jamie Carragher had his fellow CBS pundits in stitches on Wednesday night after enjoying a rather different experience of covering a Champions League football match.

The Liverpool legend, who was working for the American broadcasters for their coverage of the European tie between Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint Germain, spent the match with the famous Yellow Wall, standing with home fans in the gigantic stand at the Bundesliga stadium.

In something of a television first, Carragher fully embraced the atmosphere, admitting to drinking "about eight pints" with supporters as he performed interview duties after the game - all on live television.

With Thierry Henry, Micah Richards and Alessandro Del Piero, along with presenter Kate Abdo, all back in the studio, an animated Carragher coaxed Dortmund player Jadon Sancho for an impromptu interview alongside a sober Peter Schmeichel.

“Jadon! Jadon Sancho! Jadon, do you want to join us?” Carragher shouted at the former Manchester United winger, who had just starred in the match against the Parisians in their 1-0 win. “Jadon, come on. What a performance. Get in the middle of us, get in the middle of us.”

Carragher then asked Sancho if they could have a few pints together if his club reached the final in London, to which the England international replied that he didn't drink.

“I’ll tell you what, the only thing you haven’t done at Borussia Dortmund is go in the Yellow Wall, right?” Carragher said to Sancho. “Can you promise the Borussia Dortmund fans that you’ll go in the Yellow Wall?

“Because I’ve found a new family, I’ve got new friends. I mean they bought me pints of lager all night. Listen mate, you’d love it. Honestly Jadon, you would love it.

“Jadon, Jadon, me and you, Jadon, Jadon, if you get to the final, can we have a few pints together? You don’t (drink)?! Oh come on!”

Carragher's amusing on-screen antics weren't appreciated by all, however, with a UEFA press officer unhappy with what was happening.

“We have been told to be quiet,” Schmeichel said to Carragher, who responded: “Are we being too loud? We’re being too loud in here or in the studio?”

Schmeichel laughed before telling the former defender: “No, in here. Whatever you say is going out in every interview in the world.”

Carragher continued: “We’re in a mixed zone here. We’re that loud that everybody is looking at us and telling us to shut up! But let’s just keep it going...”

“In all seriousness, he's in the sin bin,” Schmeichel later revealed. “Seriously, he's in the sin bin. He’s upset every person here. First of all, we were supposed to have (PSG boss) Luis Enrique.

“And he came in and said, 'hello', and then he left because Jamie was wearing a Dortmund scarf. Then because we took Jadon Sancho in, the press officer from Dortmund got a bit cross with us because that was not on the list. We've been very naughty. And I hope it's been good content.”

Carragher and Schmeichel then enjoyed some banter between themselves as CBS tried to get things back to the studio.

“Listen, we’re being told to wrap this up because we’re taking your airtime away,” Carragher said. “We’re much more entertaining on the road than yourselves. But you need more air time.”

Schmeichel then concluded: “I’ve been working for four years to get a good relationship with every UEFA person here.”

“And that’s in the bin,” Carragher interrupted. “That’s in the bin!”

“And that’s all gone now,” Schmeichel continued. “They’re all standing behind the camera telling us to be quiet. So this guy (Carragher) comes on the road once, drinks eight pints and ruins that relationship!”
