Aquaman will take a break from ruling Atlantis to explore Netflix's vast Frontier once again.

The streaming service has ordered a third season of the gritty period drama that stars Jason Momoa as the hulking fur trader Declan Harp and Alun Armstrong as his nemesis Lord Benton.

The second season of Frontier left off with Lord Benton plotting to take full control of the Canadian fur trading industry through cutthroat means.

Frontier airs on Discovery in Canada, and is distributed internationally through Netflix. The series most recently wrapped up its second season late last month in the Great White North.

The show was created by the tandem of Rob and Peter Blackie, whose other notable work includes upcoming Canadian miniseries Caught and the darkly comic crime thriller Republic of Doyle.

Netflix has yet to formally announce when it will premiere the third season of Frontier.

Momoa will need to fit in shooting more Frontier in between his promotional blitz for the solo Aquaman movie, which will be arriving in cinemas worldwide next year.

The busy actor has also recently been spending time on the set of his former TV series Game of Thrones, where he reunited with co-star Emilia Clarke and made a few new friends as well.

Despite speculation from fans, Momoa has confirmed that he will not be reprising his role as the long-dead Khal Drogo for the final season of Game of Thrones - which will air in 2019.
