Search dogs and fire crews have been deployed in the ongoing search to find missing British teenager Jay Slater, as the desperate efforts to find him continue for a sixth gruelling day.

Emergency workers are searching a treacherous 30-kilometre area in hope of locating the 19-year-old, from Lancashire, who has not been heard from since Monday (June 17).

Jay had phoned a friend to telling her he was lost in a rural area and that his phone battery was down to 1 per cent. Locals have since claimed he was seen ‘walking alone’ uphill into the mountains on Monday morning before he vanished.

At the rural search base, situated just off a steep and narrow road around half a mile north of Masca, Civil Guard and Civil Defence teams were seen conducting a further search of the area on Saturday (June 22), which is around 30km wide, as part of their efforts.

Search dogs were seen being walked uphill to the base from a dirt track as a number of Bomberos personnel (fire crews) also attended the scene and were seen to be conducting meetings with one another at the hillside amid the rescue mission.

On Friday (June 21), Civil Defence rescue teams told the Manchester Evening News that there had been ‘no developments’ in the search. The Civil Guard has not made any further statements or given an update on the ongoing efforts.

The urgent search is centred around the vicinity of the Parque Rural de Teno nature reserve, the area where Jay was reported missing.

They include a ravine around 100 metres below the rental property where Jay was last seen, as well as in mountains between Masca and Las Portelas.

So far, the major search has seen Civil Guard officers, mountain rescue teams and police drones and helicopters deployed.

One member of the team revealed they are currently carrying out searches in three different areas - the Masca Gorge, La Vica, and Las Portelas, as well as the surrounding Masca area.

The latest statement from the Civil Guard, who have been approached by the M.E.N for an update, read: “There is a research on going and the police operation is focused on the area of Masca (Tenerife). We cannot confirm any more information."
