The mum of a missing teenager in Tenerife claimed a possible sighting of her son is being investigated.

Jay Slater, from Lancashire, disappeared on Monday, June 17, sparking a major search which is now into its sixth day. The 19-year-old had attended the NRG festival with friends the night before his disappearance.

It's believed he then travelled back to the rural village of Masca with others he met, staying in a remote Airbnb holiday rental, before reportedly "walking off into the mountains on foot".

His distraught mum, Debbie Duncan, has pledged to remain on the Spanish island "for as long as it takes" amid the ongoing investigation.

She told the Mail: "All I know is that I am going to stay here for as long as it takes, I'm not going home unless it's with Jay."

Debbie also mentioned a potential sighting of her missing son. She said someone had reported seeing a person walking "back down the road" and "sat on a bench" with two other men around 6pm on Monday.

She added: "But if it was him what was he doing there and who are these two men?"

The sighting has yet to be confirmed by the Civil Guard, which is leading the investigation into Jay's disappearance, reports the Manchester Evening News.

The most recent update from the force said how specialists were conducting a search of the surrounding Masca area. Civil Guard officers, mountain rescue teams, and police drones and helicopters have already been deployed in the search.

Civil Defence officers at the search bases said that the vast area, split up into three different ravines, is around 30km wide.
