Jed Cartwright met his new Hull FC teammates for the first time at training this Monday, having flown into the UK from Australia over the weekend. The 27-year-old has signed an 18-month deal at the Black and Whites and could be in contention to play against Warrington Wolves this Saturday afternoon.

Interim coach Simon Grix will make a call on Cartwright later this week, with Hull in good spirits after ending their 11-game losing win with an 18-10 victory over Leeds Rhinos last Saturday. The Aussie back-rower, meanwhile, is understood to be in good shape, with the club's coaching and medical staff assessing his condition ahead of any final playing decision.

Cartwright's signing was confirmed earlier this month after being exclusively reported by Hull Live. He is the son of new head coach for 2025, John Cartwright, with the player set to bolster the Black and Whites' back-row options going into the second half of the season.

Speaking on the signing of Cartwright last week, Grix said: "He'll be a good addition for us. I've watched him play for a few years now, and he's been in some good systems. There's been loads of good feedback about Jed.

"He's a big thing, and he takes some handling. He's had some misfortunes with injuries earlier on in his career, but hopefully he can come over here and have a clean run and show us what he's about. He's definitely a good player, and he's going to add to us."

Cartwright, who fills one of the quota spots left by the departures of Tex Hoy and Fa'amanu Brown, was signed from NRL outfit Newcastle Knights. He played three games for the Knights this year after spending four seasons at South Sydney Rabbitohs.

Like his father, Jed came through the Penrith Panthers system. He made his first-grade debut in 2019 and has 34 NRL appearances to his name. He stands at 6ft 3ins and weighs over 100kg, offering Hull a strike threat on the edge.
