Jeremy Clarkson has never shown himself to be too bothered by that Top Gear Falklands controversy, and now he's even using his gig as Who Wants to be a Millionaire? host to make a cheeky little reference to the whole thing too.

If you don't remember, Top Gear and Clarkson provoked criticism from people in Argentina when a licence plate reading H982 FKL, seemingly referencing the Falklands War, was used on a car driven by Clarkson through Argentina in October 2014 for the show's Christmas special.

Top Gear staff were forced to leave Argentina due to protests, but the BBC Trust ruled in 2015 that there was no evidence the number plate deliberately referenced the Falklands War.

Fast forward four years, though, and a question on Millionaire prompted the ideal opportunity for Clarkson to recall the whole affair with a quick little comment.

With contestant Nicholas on £64,000, he was then faced with the question: "'Chilango' is a term for a resident of which city?"

The possible answers were Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro, Mexico City and Havana, and while Nicholas opted to walk away with the money, his guess of Mexico City would have seen him answer the question correctly.

That wasn't enough for Clarkson though, as just before he revealed the answer, he quipped: "See, Buenos Aires, I have a different term for people who live there, after what happened to us in Argentina."

The studio audience appreciated the Top Gear reference, and a couple of viewers were on hand to pick it up too:

Clarkson was last unrepentant about the controversy back in 2016, when he admitted that he "knew the shit would hit the fan" over the licence plate.

"If I ever go back there again the number plate will be W3 WON, we won," he added. "I've got no time for it."

Well, he's certainly made that clear.

Who Wants to be a Millionaire? continues tomorrow night (January 5) at 9pm on ITV.
