Jeremy Corbyn's Labour opponent made millions of pounds from private healthcare

JEREMY Corbyn has warned those in favour of privatising healthcare to “keep your hands off our NHS”, after it was revealed that his Labour opponent made millions of pounds in profit out of private healthcare in just nine months.

The company owned by Praful Nargund, Labour’s pro-privatisation election candidate standing against Jeremy Corbyn in Islington North on Thursday, has made nearly £17 million pounds from private healthcare in nine months, Companies House accounts show.

It comes as the Islington North Labour candidate was filmed saying “privatisation of healthcare is very, very important and it’s about what the private sector can do to prove its worth to the public sector”.

Nargund is a majority owner of Create Health Holdings and is also a Director of New Spring Holdings Ltd, which owns CREATE Impact Ventures, a venture capital firm that seeks to invest in private healthcare companies.

Nargund, who was selected as a Labour candidate for Islington North after Jeremy Corbyn was kicked out of the party, has refused to take part in the constituency’s general election health hustings, which were subsequently cancelled.

The pro-privatisation candidate has also refused to take part in every other constituency election debate and hustings event in Islington North during the general election campaign.

Responding to the news, Corbyn (below) said: “In Islington North, the NHS is on the ballot.

“Voters of Islington North need to know that if they want an MP that will stand up for a publicly run NHS then they have to vote for me as an independent candidate.

“I’m proud to have spent my life campaigning with my community for universal public healthcare and against privatisation of health and other public services. With your support, that is what I’ll continue to do.”

“In Islington North, we have a message to anybody looking to promote private healthcare: keep your hands off our NHS.”
