Nominated for three Brits, Jess is set to perform at the prestigious ceremony in February, but has issued a self-imposed cape ban in a bid to avoid Madonna’s unfortunate ‘capegate’ from last year’s ceremony.
For anyone who needs reminding, Madonna got the heel of her shoe caught in her huge Armani bullfighter-style cape during a performance of Living For Love at the 2015 Brits and fell backwards down some stairs.
Here’s a recap:
Understandably, newcomerJess is keen to avoid a similar fate and admitted she was already nervous enough without throwing sartorial missteps into the Brits mix.
She told the Daily Mirror: “I’m already really nervous. No capes,” she revealed during the nominations launch.
“I would never wear a cape anyway.”

But she’s still not confident that she’ll get through her performance on her feet. Jess, who’s up for British Female Solo Artist, British Breakthrough Act and British Single, said: “I mean it’ll probably be me this year.
Jess revealed that she’s a huge Madonna fan and was impressed with how she pulled off her stumble at last year’s ceremony.

She said: ”Madonna is a massive inspiration. The fact that she fell down and stood straight back up and carried on. Not many people could do that.”
Let’s hope no one has to.
