Netflix's Marvel universe is one step closer to ending for good, as the final series of Marvel's Jessica Jones has dropped its official trailer.

This time around, Krysten Ritter's straight-talking, whisky-slugging private detective crosses paths with highly intelligent psychopath Greg Salinger (Jeremy Bobb) – aka Foolkiller – and she and Trish (Rachael Taylor) must repair their fractured relationship to team up and take him down, while also confronting their own ideas of what it means to be a hero.

"Jessica Jones, you believe that you could save the world, but you're terrified you've already failed them – and you have, because you are not and you never will be a hero," Salinger taunts at one point.

The trailer also teases Trish's potential transformation into Hellcat, showing her preparing for work as what Jessica mockingly calls a "super cat burglar", while Jessica clashes with Jeri Hogarth (Carrie-Anne Moss) in the new clips too.

Season three of Jessica Jones will be the end of the Defenders shows on Netflix following the cancellation of fellow Marvel Netflix shows Daredevil, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and Punisher.

Netflix confirmed Jessica Jones' cancellation back in February this year, with show star Krysten Ritter saying that she's "proud" of the way the show ends.

"It has been a dream to play Jessica alongside my amazing cast and the best crew in the business for these past 5 years. I am so grateful for every second of it," she wrote in an Instagram post.

"We have THE BEST fans. You guys mean the world to me and I appreciate you beyond words. The final season of Jessica Jones is coming later this year and I am proud of how we complete JJ's journey. I can't wait for you all to see it. Stay tuned and more to come."

Jessica Jones' first two seasons are now streaming on Netflix, and the third will arrive on June 14.
