Mauricio Pochettino’s departure from Chelsea will not end their interest in Jhon Duran, according to the Aston Villa striker’s agent.

Speaking to Colombian radio station Caracol, Duran’s representative Jonathan Herrera has discussed the 20-year-old’s future and his excitement at the possibility of playing in the Champions League.

However, Herrera has also pointed to the fact his client has not made that many starts, just three in the Premier League last season – with 20 more appearances coming off the bench.

He said, via Sport Witness: “He is a player who has a contract with Aston Villa, he ended up doing very well and the coach is counting on him, it is a club that, having got into the Champions League is a great opportunity, but we know he wants to play, he wants to go out and play, we are going to see. Now the market is opening up, the club is looking at some options and so are we,” he said.

As regards speculation linking Duran with Chelsea – and rumours of a makeweight deal with Conor Gallagher - Herrera reflected on Pochettino’s departure from Stamford Bridge.

“The interest has always been there. The fact that Pochettino continues or leaves the club [shouldn’t affect], the one who want him in the end is the club,” he continued.

“He is a player that if they change coach or not, we will see what happens, but there has always been interest. Let’s see how we can handle it and make sure Aston Villa are ready.”

However, Unai Emery praised the youngster after his two goal performance against Liverpool in the final home game of the season.

"He is very young - 20 year old. His potential, it is impossible to predict how far he is going to get.

"I believe in him. It is different football in Colombia. Tactically, the football is very different in the Premier League. We are working with him a lot. I know he is going to score, get chances and use his power. His potential is clear, but we need to manage him as a young person.”
