Jimmy Thelin has set his sights on St Johnstone goalkeeper Dimitar Mitov.

The Bulgarian international, who was named player of the year last season for Saints, still has a year left on his contract at McDiarmid Park.

However, Aberdeen are keen to activate a six-figure release clause in his contract. Aberdeen manager Jimmy Thelin is looking to bolster his goalkeeping options following Kelle Roos' departure due to contract expiration.

While Brentford's Hakon Valdimarsson and Rangers' reserve Robby McCrorie were on the shortlist, Thelin seems to favour Mitov. Mitov joined Saints from Cambridge United last summer under former manager Steven MacLean.

Thelin, who recently arrived in Aberdeen, has already signed defender Gavin Molloy from Shelbourne and striker Peter Ambrose from Ujpest. This development follows criticism from Duk's agent over the club's decision to play him out wide last season and reject transfer offers for the forward.
